Background: Tongue movement and saliva flow has some degree of potential to clean debris from facial, lingual, interproximal spaces and occlusal pits but is less effective in complete removal of plaque.Materials and Methods: The present study was having twenty subjects in the age group of 20-46 years, selected from the undergraduate clinic, Periodontics of the Subharti Dental College, Meerut. The subjects displayed good general health and were diagnosed with adult periodontitis. Results: There was a significant reduction in OHI scores and pocket depths from baseline and 3 and 6 months. Conclusion: Toothbrushing and maintenance of oral hygiene has a positive effect on the microbiota and leads to improvements in clinical parameters.
