Abstract

Background: Reaction time (RT) is a measure of the response to a stimulus. Reaction time provides an indirect index of the processing ability of Central Nervous System and also a simple means of determining sensory-motor performance. It is the time interval between the onset of stimulus and the initiation of appropriate voluntary response under the condition that the subject has been instructed to respond as rapidly as possible and is a simple and non-invasive test for peripheral and central neural structures with a physiological significance. Factors that can affect the average human RT include age, sex, left or right hand, central versus peripheral vision, practice, fatigue, fasting, breathing cycle, personality types, exercise, and intelligence of the subject.
