Curriculum is a holistic and comprehensive entity in education which extends beyond classroom teaching to all interactions in the medical school.Learning methods refer to any interventions deliberately undertaken to help the learning process at individual, team or organisational level. Dynamic learning methods plays a vital role in the development of any teaching programmes. The current medical education system has come under scrutiny worldwide with questions being raised regarding its relevance in the face of evolving health care needs of the community. This descriptive cross sectional study was conducted among 130 fresh medical graduates of Saveetha Medical College and Hospital, Chennai, India to understand their perception of the current education system and to identify whether they felt the current education system was sufficient to help them handle the health care needs of the community. 54% of the students felt that the current system was sufficient, 83% felt more time assimilating theoretical knowledge compared to practical skills and hence, 42% faced difficulties in applying practical knowledge. This study reiterates that the current system is leading to lacunae in the students' understanding and their preparedness for their future role as health care professionals. The need for introduction of newer teaching learning methods is highlighted through this study.
