EXPRESSION OF P53 IN UROTHELIAL CARCINOMA AND ITS CORRELATION WITH THE GRADE OF THE TUMOR – A TWO YEARS STUDY IN A TERTIARY HOSPITAL

BACKGROUND
In India Urothelial carcinoma of bladder  constitutes about 7% of all male cancers. It is associated with high morbidity and mortality.Current grading system in application by WHO/ISUP divides Urothelial malignancies as  low and high grade tumors by morphological criteria. Grading Urothelial carcinomas depending on morphological criteria alone is some times difficult in limited tissue. In such cases tumor grading by alternative  methods like IHC expression is useful. In the present study we have evaluated the diagnostic utility of p53  in grading Urothelial carcinomas.
MATERIALS AND METHODS :
The present study is an observational study conducted at department of Pathology, Gandhi Medical College/Hospital, Secunderabad for over a period of two years from June 2016 to May 2018. A total of 30 TURBT  and  Cystectomy specimens diagnosed as Urothelial carcinoma on routine H&E were included in the study. These tissues were later subjected to IHC markers for  p53. The slides are reviewed and expression of these markers was evaluated and  correlated with grade. The results were statistically analyzed.

Role of EGFR, HER2 and P53 in the Spectrum of Oesophageal Lesions

Background:Oesophageal cancer is the eighth most common cancer and sixth in cancer
related mortality, worldwide. The current study was carried out to see the role of three
markers (P53, HER2, EGFR) in various oesophageal lesions, their association in cancer
progression and their role as tumour markers.
Materials and Methods: Study was conducted on 100 cases of oesophageal lesions
consisting of both neoplastic and non-neoplastic spectrum. Immunohistochemistry was
performed on all the specimens for three markers as per the set criteria and expression
of these markers was studied and scoring was done accordingly.
Results: Present study was conducted on 100 cases with oesophageal lesions both
neoplastic and non-neoplastic. Parameters like age, gender, family history, alcohol
intake, cigarette smoking and location of lesion in oesophagus were also studied.
Expression of P53, Her2, EGFR were studied using IHC.
Conclusion: P53, HER2 and EGFR show a strong association with EC and
premalignant lesions, the absence of their expression in normal oesophageal tissue and
non-neoplastic conditions, points out their role in development of EC and tumour
progression. Out of the three markers, P53 has the strongest association with EC. HER2
overexpression was more in case of EAC than ESCC, indicating its importance in
guiding further treatment. EGFR over- expression was noted in fewer cases.

Lichen planus is an autoimmune disorder that primarily affects the body's skin and
multiple mucous membranes. In multicellular species, protein 53 and syndecan-1protein
play an significant role since they control the cell cycle and thus play a major role in
tumor suppression and cancer prevention. The p53 gene was therefore identified as a
"genome protector," referring to its role in preserving the integrity of genetic
information by preventing gene mutations. The purpose of this analysis was to study the
association between certain immune markers in lichen planus patients.
The aim of this study : Study correlation between some immune marker in patients with
lichen planus
Methods 'Thirty formalin-fixed , paraffin-embedded tissue pieces, diagnosed as Oral
Lichen planus(OLP), were included in the sample of this report.
Results: Evaluation of P53 Immunohistochemistry and Evaluation of syndecan-
1protein Immunohistochemistry Conclusion: the marker p53 expression is high in the
patient with Lichen Planus while the second studed marker syndecan-1 protein is less
than marker p53

p53: The Guardian of Genome Against OSCC Progression

Protein 53 (p53) plays a vital role in the human body, mainly as tumor suppressor protein, by inhibiting tumor cell formation and DNA damage through gene target regulation. Known as "guardian of genome", p53 protects genome integrity and prevents cells' proliferation with damaged DNA. In oral squamous cell carcinoma, there is approximately 85% mutation of p53, which leads to impairment of its normal function and often correlated with OSCC progression. Those findings signify the role of p53 in guarding against OSCC, which are through cell cycle arrest, DNA repair, and apoptosis.
