Determination of random blood sugar, alkaline phosphatase and zinc levels in individuals with leprosy

Objective: The current study aimed to compare the levels of zinc, alkaline phosphatase, and random blood sugar in people with leprosy to those in healthy controls from the Bundelkhand area. The second objective was to compare the correlation between study parameters in the leprosy group and the healthy control group. Material & methods:  The research was carried out in the Department of Biochemistry at Maharani Laxmi Bai Medical College (MLBMC) in Jhansi. In the healthy control group, forty human beings with normal glycemic status were age and gender matched. The leprosy patient group contained forty leprosy patients who were receiving treatment. Leprosy disease was diagnosed in accordance with the world health organization guidelines. Results: Age difference between the two groups was not statistically significant in the present investigation. Whereas, we found a statistically significant contrast between the two sets of data we analyzed, including RBS, ALP, and serum zinc levels. Leprosy patients showed a positive link between ALP and zinc, and a negative correlation between age and RBS; RBS and serum zinc. A positive connection between ALP and zinc was seen in the control group. We conclude that periodic monitoring of zinc concentrations in leprosy people may be prudent since zinc deficiency worsens insulin resistance and may lead to greater loss through urine.

INTRODUCTION: Infertility has often been defined as failure to achieve pregnancy within one year of unprotected intercourse. Seminal plasma is very important for sperm metabolism, function, survival, and transport in the female genital tract.Zinc deficiency may lead to gonadal dysfunction, decrease in testicular weight and shrinkage of seminiferous tubules. Zinc may have a role in sperm production, viability and in the prevention of spermatozoa degradation.Fructose concentration is considered a good measure to evaluate seminal vesicular function and has been studied in great detail, and its concentration can depend on number of factors such as time since collection and the age of the donor.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: This is a cross-sectional study.Semen examination of the patients visiting the gynecology department of the Government Medical College, Aurangabad was carried out according to the standardized method of the World Health Organization from January 2016 to January 2017. A complete medical history of the patients was recorded. The collection and analysis of semen were done by properly standardized procedures as mentioned in WHO Laboratory Manual (2010). Males with primary and secondary infertility without treatment, of the ages between 20-45 years males.
RESULTS: The mean of sperm count in oligospermic subjects is 10.84 ± 7.118 millions/ml of semen ranging 1-15 million/ml which is significantly lower than that of the normospermic subjects i.e; 92.88 ± 79.93 millions/ml, within a range of 32 – 170 million/ml (p < 0.001). In addition, the mean sperm motility in oligospermic men is 40.56 ± 53.82%, ranged within 0-100% is significantly lower than that of the control group 65.6 ± 41.50 %, which ranged from 30 - 98 % (p < 0.001). The mean of seminal plasma zinc in oligospermic men is1.65 ± 0.936μmol/ejaculate, ranged within 0.2- 2.9μmol/ejaculate is significantly lower than that of the control group4.074 ±1.199μmol/ejaculate which ranged from 2.66 – 4.9μmol/ejaculate (p < 0.001).
CONCLUSION: From our study we can conclude that biochemical parameters that is zinc and fructose level in seminal plasma have direct effect on physical parameters like sperm count and motility that‟s why we should incorporate these parameters in routine semen analysis. Also as dietary zinc affects seminal zinc level, zinc should be supplemented and dietary zinc should be adequate.

A Study of association of serum magnesium and zinc levels in diabetics

Background: Hypomagnesaemia and hypermagnesuria was reported to be associated with diabetes complications. Thus, magnesium has drawn considerable attention for its potential role in improving insulin sensitivity and preventing DM. Zinc, another important trace element, acting as a cofactor for several biochemical processes has a major role in health status. There is substantiating evidence indicating the importance of zinc in DM. Impaired zinc metabolism, decreased plasma zinc and hyperzincuria has been reported as a consequential effect of glucose absorption. But limited studies have been conducted in this part of the world. This study puts in an effort to find the answers.
Aims and Objectives: To study the association of serum magnesium and zinc levels in diabetics.
Materials and Methods: This study was done in the Department of General Medicine, SSPM’S Medical College and Lifetime Hospital, Padve.
This study was done from Jan 2019 to Dec 2020.
Ninety and an equal age and sex matched control were used for the study.
Results: There is a strong association between the serum magnesium and zinc levels in diabetics when compared to normal individuals.
Conclusion: More number of studies have to come up in different geographical locations so as to be helpful to the practicing physicians.

Failure of Height Growth (HG) results in human resources being unable to compete in the era of globalization, affecting work productivity, increasing the risk of obesity and triggering the metabolic syndrome. The incidence of stunting in school children is quite high, including North Sumatra with a prevalence of 42.3%. During the growth period of very high bone mineralization, low intake of protein, calcium and zinc influences linear growth. Growth failure is caused by inadequate intake of one or more nutrients. Aged 5-12 years is an opportunity to catch up and improve height. Objective: To determine the effect of lemuru fish nuggets on protein, calcium, zinc and Z-Score HG / U intake for grade 1 elementary school children who are stunted. Research Methods: the study was conducted in April-June 2018, quasi-experimental with a pre and post-test design, a sample of 31 people treated and 36 controls. The treatment group was given lemuru fish nuggets for 30 days for 75 gr—data collection using 2x24 hour Food Recall method, five-day food recording and HG measurement. The data collected was processed using T dependent test data analysis with α = 0.05. Results: There were significant differences in the average values of protein, calcium and zinc intake before and after administration of lemuru fish nuggets, these differences in intake affected the average Z-Score HG / U values, the treatment group was higher than the control. Suggestion: to the sample mother to continue giving food made from fish containing high protein, calcium and zinc in the daily menu, so that the lagging of HG growth can be pursued.

Influence Of Zinc Application In Plant Growth: An Overview

Although zinc is considered as micronutrient it has a vital role in plant growth. Among all metals, the largest number of proteins required zinc for their catalytic function. Zinc-binding proteins make up nearly 10% of all protein in biological systems. Zinc plays a vital role in biological systems like structural integrity of membrane and contribution to protein synthesis also gene expression. According to FAO that zinc is considered as most commonly deficient in agriculture soils about 50%. Sometimes add more phosphorus may lead to the deficient of zinc in the soil for some reason. In plants zinc deficient can be noticed by the leaf chlorosis, necrotic spots on leaves, bronzing of leaves, resetting of leaves, stunting of plants, dwarf leaves, malformed leaves. Zinc deficient soil can as treat well in many ways and the most used method is the application of zinc-containing fertilizers. Zinc sulphate is a widely used fertilizer. If soils are untreated it may cause up to 40% yield loss without the appearance of distinct leaf symptoms. One percent zinc-containing NPK and urea fertilizer are available in many countries. Zinc also is used as seed treatment instead of the application of fertilizer and root dipping or transplant seedlings. Thus, zinc is considered an important micronutrient for plant growth.
