Abstract
Cancer is a leading cause of death in both developed and developing countries, which emerges asa major public health problem. Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is the most common form
of carcinoma in the oral cavity and ranks as the 12th most common cancer in the world.
Unfortunately, many cases of OSCC are clinically detected in a late stage, and the available
therapeutic alternatives are highly expensive and disfiguring. The development of reliable
biomarkers and more effective therapeutic agents are necessary to improve patient outcome.
