Abstract
Background & Method: The present study is done with an aim to study the relation between tip-to- apex distance of lag screw of TFN used in unstable fracture I/T femur. Preoperative assessment of fracture geometry was done using Evan’s classification. Intra operatively pattern of reduction achieved was seen on Anteroposterior and Lateral projections by image intensifier.Result: Average impaction in Group 1 is 3.2 mm while in Group 2 it is 7.08 mm at 24 week’s. P- value is 0.037 ( P < 0.05 ) i.e. statistically significant . Average limb shortening in Group 1 is 2.9 mm while in Group 2 it is 7.41 mm at 24 week’s. P- value is 0.0218 ( P < 0.05 ) i.e. statistically significant .
Conclusion: The study showed that the functional outcome was better in MIM as compared to the conventional method and gait parameters were more towards normal in MIM. Further long term studies would perhaps substantiate the results with more clarity. Average Harris Hip score is almost similar in both the groups. Impaction achievedof postoperative wound healing is better in MIM, as compare to conventional method.
