Abstract

Skeletal muscle relaxants(SMR’s) are used as supportive therapy when initial treatment fails. They are routinely used in the management of fibromyalgia, low back pain, neck pain, head ache, myofascial pain and muscle spasm. Humans develops anxiety when the muscle tone increased this results in the development of aches and pains including head ache that often trouble anxious patients. This study was carried out to evaluate the muscle relaxant property of eperisone and diazepam by rota rod test. Rota rod method was used to evaluate the muscle relaxant property of eperisone and diazepam. Albino mice were used as experimental animal to test the muscle relaxant property.Three doses of diazepam and eperisone were used to evaluate and compare the central muscle relaxant property. After the successful completion of the experiment, it was found that both the drugs demonstrated muscle relaxant action. But eperisone produced more muscle relaxant property as compared to diazepam for every concentration and increases relaxant property with increase in dose.
