Abstract

Background: Smartphone technology is causing addiction behaviour, which eventually causes mental and health fatigue. Depression, anxiety are related phenomenon and aim of the present study is to investigate lipid profile and other biochemical parameters in the mobile phone addicted and depressed individuals.
Methods: The present study was conducted in the department of biochemistry of FH Medical college . Mobile addiction scale by KIM and HAMILTON depression scales were used to scrutinize subjects for cases and controls.
Results: Total150 subjects were included with 75 cases and75 controls. Smartphone addiction scores is positively related with the depression scores (p<0.05). Age, SPAS, HAMD were significant between cases and controls (p<0.001). Fasting blood sugar was significant between cases and controls(p=0.031).  Lipid profile was insignificant. In regression analysis  Age , TG and VLDL were found significant for depression with p value  (0.021, 0.001, 0.001)respectively .
Conclusions: There was a close relationship between mobile phone addiction and depression. Together both have not been investigated on biochemical grounds hence  future, longitudinal research should be carried out to better investigate the vibrant changes in the relationship between mobile phone addiction, depression and other biochemical and inflammatory markers.
