Abstract
Background:Diabetes, which is becoming more common over the world, will be a primary cause of death and morbidity. The present study determined correlation between obesity and glycated hemoglobin in type II diabetes patients.Materials & Methods: 100 type II DM patients of both genders were included. Anthropometric measurements such as weight, height and BMI (kg/m2) was calculated. The waist circumference (WC) was measured. Fasting plasma glucose was analyzed by glucose oxidase method and HbA1c by latex agglutination inhibition assay.
Results: Out of 100 patients, males were 60 and females were 40. there were 25 normal, 35 overweight and 40 obese patients. The difference was non- significant (P> 0.05). Among normal BMI subject, 12 had <6.5%, 6 had 6.5-8%, 3 had 8-10% and 4 had >10% Hb1Ac. Among overweight, 4 had <6,5%, 4 had 6.5-8%, 15 had 8-10% and 12 had >10% Hb1Ac. Among obese, there were 11,9, 13 and 7 subjects with <6.5%, 6.5-8%, 8-10% and >10% Hb1Ac level. The difference was significant (P< 0.05).
Conclusion: Dysglycemia was high in diabetic subjects with average BMI, overweight and obese.
