Abstract

Premeha is a syndrome which includes all those clinical conditions which are characterized by increased quantity of urine associated with or without the increased frequency of micturition. The description of this disease is widely given in our classics both in Brihatrayee and Laghutrayee. There are 20 sub-types of Prameha due to the interaction of the three Doshas and 10 Dushyas (disturbed functioning of the principles that support the various bodily tissues). To study Prameha, its etiopathogenesis and actual line of treatment from Ayurvedic point of view, we must go through the fundamentals in Ayurveda Samhitas. The aim and object of this paper is to review the documented concept of Prameha in the Ayurvedic classics for better understanding in academic and its relevance in this era which will be helpful for the management of Prameha by principles of Ayurveda
