Abstract

Martin Heidegger’s facticity otherwise known as Thrownness is incorporated
with the characters in the novel The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas. The individuals face
existential boredom, because they could not make choice of their own, which leads to their
self-deception and bad-faith. This paper highlights facticity in the life of a German boy
Bruno, meanwhile, it throws light on Shmuel, the Jewish boy in the concentration camp.
This article focuses on the existential crisis of both the innocents. It underscores the
facticity through historical anecdotes. It also represents thrownness through the
manifestation of misery in the minor characters. The research paper emphases on
despondency and its repercussions based on the destiny of an individual in the conflict
zone.
