Abstract

Health care waste is one of the ascended and emerged issues all over the world today. It not only affected people also the environment, animals, and crops. Protection from Health care waste is still a threat for Sri Lanka due to the amount of total generation of clinical waste and the availability of the treatment/disposal hence needed drastic technological improvements. This study aims to identify the impact of the current disposal management process in Health Care Waste Management (HCWM) of selected hospitals in Kalmunai Medical Officer of Health Division, Sri Lanka, along with the development of a software prototype for effective data management and decision making, using agile methodology, accommodating most functionalities. The output of the prototype witnesses proper data management. OLS method used to examine the relationship between Health Care Wastes (HCW) Procedure impacts on HCWM; the regression results show that except for other variables, the Segregation of HCW and Waste treatment & disposal have a negative relationship with the HCWM. These negative relationships highly recommended a need for a software system for making important decisions regarding the Health care waste procedure to have a standardized Health care waste management system sheltering Whole Island with sustainable solutions.
