Abstract

This study aims to identify the main motivation factors influencing the involvement of Sultan Idris Education University (UPSI) MASUM athletes in sports. This study involved 50 male and 50 female UPSI MASUM athletes of 2017/2018 session. The study found that athlete involvement in sports is more influenced by intrinsic motivation factors compared to extrinsic motivation factors. Data analysis was carried out based on the results of the data obtained through a survey of UPSI MASUM athletes. The difference in motivation factors between male and female athletes has found that male athletes have higher motivation level compared to female athletes for each motivation factor. However, both genders are more driven by intrinsic motivation factors.
