Abstract
Background: Hashimoto thyroiditis is a common autoimmune disorder. Clinically, they may present as thyroid swelling with hypothyroid, hyperthyroid or in euthyroid state. Objectives: To evaluate the hormonal status in Hashimoto thyroiditis and to correlate the hormonal status with clinical and pathological parameters. Materials and methods: We retrospectively studied 40 Hashimoto thyroiditis cases proven by FNAC, and each case was evaluated. Ethical approval was obtained before conducting the study. This was an ICMR approved study. Result:According to this study many of the Hashimoto thyroiditis patients reported at the terminal stage only after a year with diffuse swelling with hypothyroid status, it was commonly reported among female between age group of 31-35 years of age. Hypothyroid status was commonly reported after a year with diffuse swelling among female between age group of 31-35 years. Cases with hyperthyroid status were commonly reported within a month with diffuse swelling among female between age group 31-35years. Euthyroid status was commonly reported within a year with diffuse swelling among female between age group 31-35years and 41-45years. Conclusion: Irrespective of the presentation of the patient, especially in female in the age group of 31-35years with thyroid swelling, FNAC should be performed to diagnose Hashimoto thyroiditis. FNAC is an excellent tool for investigation as it can help in the early detection and preventing disease progression in Hashimoto thyroiditis
