Abstract

Background: In a hospital a properly structured operation theatre is a dynamic and essential part. In order to accommodate patients, it is important to meet the requirements of surgeons and operational theatre personnel and to demonstrate a well-functioning operational theatre and excellent management. Improving the role and efficacy of an operation theatre in such a hospital, where health services and administration continue to change constantly, has often been a challenging and daring practice. A significant cause of excessive use of operating room time and a waste of money is late cancellation of planned operations. It is also potentially traumatic with depressing consequences and expensive for the patient in terms of missed working days and everyday life interruption. In order to analyze the time usage and most common causes of delays and cancellations of scheduled surgeries in AVBRH, the current analysis will be carried out.
Aim: To evaluate the best use of the operating theatre and to assess the stated causes of delays and cancellations of scheduled cases in operation theater of AVBRH.
Objectives:
1) To assess the number and range of various surgeries conducted at the operation theatre.
2) To analyze the time utilization of surgeries and causes of cancellations of scheduled cases.
3) To identify the Causes of delays of surgical cases.
4) To assess the financial impact of reduced loss on patients.
Methodology: Observational study of the utilization of OT will be carried out in operation theatre of AVBRH hospital. The data will be taken from the records maintained in OT. Number of surgeries along with time taken to the surgery will be noted.In this study we will find out the reasons or causes for cancellations of surgery, and due to these there will be the impact on patient’s mental and financial state. Related questions will be asked to the working staff of the OT. Proper evaluation is going to be carried out throughout the data collection.
Expected Result- Result will reflect based on the data collection. Proper utilization of operation theatre and minimum cancellation of surgery will be the main purpose for the study.
Conclusion- proper time utilization of OT, reasons for cancellation of surgery will be avoided and can be prevented by simple steps.
