A CHANGING EDUCATION IMPERATIVE IN RURAL INDIA DURING COVID-19

AbstractIn order to reduce the spread of COVID-19, most countries across the world have decided to temporarily shut down educational institutions. This situation challenged the education system across the world and forced educators to shift to an online mode of teaching overnight. Many academic institutions that were earlier reluctant to change their traditional pedagogical approach had no option but to shift entirely to online teaching–learning. It is obvious that COVID-19 will not affect students equally, it will influence both positively and negatively the acquisition of English Language in rural India.This article attempts to gain a better understanding of how the COVID-19 crisis may affect underprivileged rural students’ learning, to analyze the usage of technology like WhatsApp, YouTube, learning Apps,Education TV channel with limited resources in rural areas during COVID-19 and in future.
