Fibrodysplasia ossificans progressiva is a rare human genetic disease that is characterised by congenital skeletal malformations and progressive ossification of soft tissues that usually begins at around early childhood. This disease is episodic In nature and causes initiation of spontaneous bone forming lesions (flare ups) that closely mimic the bone forming process seen in early embryonic stage.
