Abstract

Endometriosis is a chronic inflammatory disease defined as the presence of endometrium-like tissue outside the endometrium and myometrium, which induces a chronic inflammatory reaction. it is a disease of women in reproductive age as the endometriotic tissue's growth is oestrogen-dependant. It is common among infertile women, though it remains unveiled for long periods of time because of poor correlation between symptoms and extent of the disease. Therefore, accurate diagnosis is required using the appropriate diagnostic tools to reduce the delay in diagnosis. Laparoscopy plays an important role in the diagnosis but it should not be considered as the first step in diagnosis work-up.
