The article deals with the development of the historical science of Karakalpakstan at the turn of two centuries. Tribute is paid to the efforts of national and foreign historians to study the history of the province. Two stages in the historical science of Karakalpakstan are stated in the 1950s-1990s and the period of independence. The state of historical science at the present stage is analyzed and the crucial problems of national historiography are identified.
